  • Schubert

  • Mendelssohn

Violin Concerto in E, op. 64

  • Mendelssohn

movements from "A Midsummer Night's Dream," op. 61

As a teenager, Mendelssohn had already been inspired by Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream inspire a cleverly written overture, in which you can hear the fairies flitting about. Years later, he added more movements. In his imaginative stage music, Mendelssohn knows how to capture the dreamlike atmosphere of the story like no other. That he was ill, and died five years later, one would not suspect: this is music full of fun, and full of life. Featuring the heavenly voices of Mirella Hagen, Olivia Vermeulen and the National Women's Youth Choir.
