In the National Boys Choir, enthusiastic boys with extraordinary voices and musicality sing.

Boys with talent are scouted around the country based on a beautiful singing voice, musical ear and drive. Together they form a group that captures the hearts of listeners with great energy and a unique sound. For several years, soloists have also been trained in the National Boys Choir. Our boy soloists have sung important solo roles, including with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, Netherlands Chamber Choir and most recently in die Zauberflöte with the National Opera.

Boys from the soloist class additionally performed in the operas Laika Of Martijn Padding and Sister Bertken By Rob Zuiddam, Eva's Song (from the opera As Light) by Stockhausen at the Holland Festival, the Chichester Psalms of Bernstein and, for example, in the Requiem By Fauré.
The National Boys Choir and soloist class is under the direction of vocal coach and conductor Irene Verburg.

For boys with musical and vocal talent who:

  • Like to sing with other boys together
  • Have a natural and free use of voice
  • Having a voice that is easy to develop
  • Eager to learn to sing better
  • Have good communication skills during performance
  • Have quick reaction and learning abilities
  • Having fun giving concerts and being on stage
  • Weekly lessons (solfège, repertoire) in regional classrooms in small groups according to own level
  • Monthly rehearsal days on Saturday or Sunday along with other boys from around the country
  • Vocal accompaniment, including during mutation (transition from boy's voice to man's voice)
  • Concerts with professional orchestras, such as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra
  • Recordings for radio, TV, CD
  • A great preliminary course should you later wish to enter the music profession as a singer, instrumentalist or composer
  • Above all: musical experiences with peers and friendships for life

During rehearsals, separate lessons are offered to boys in mutation (in between boys' voice and men's voice). Because the young male voice changes rapidly, its development can be closely monitored and guided. After the National Boys' Choir, you can move on to the National Mixed Youth Choir. Are you still under 6 years old? Then you can also sign up for the Young Talent Class (children aged 6 and 7) or the Talent Class (children aged 7, 8 or 9).
