The National Mixed Youth Choir (ages 15 to 29) is known for its youthful yet rich choral sound, musical refinement, and great expressiveness. With a repertoire ranging from early music to contemporary compositions, the choir consistently impresses with its flexibility and stylistic versatility. Regarding their performance of the St. Matthew Passion with the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra in the spring of 2026, the press wrote: ‘The sound is pure, gentler, and more transparent than what you hear from a modern choir of adult professionals.’
The National Mixed Youth Choir regularly works with guest conductors such as Ed Spanjaard and Sigvards Klava. Recently, the choir went on a concert tour to Hungary at the invitation of the organizers, performed Mozart’s Requiem with PRJCT Amsterdam under the direction of Maarten Engeltjes, and gave a series of Christmas concerts featuring South American Baroque music and the Messe de Minuit by Charpentier with Musica Temprana, conducted by Adrián Rodríguez Van der Spoel. Upcoming projects include Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Concertgebouw Orchestra and Iván Fischer at the Ziggo Dome, as well as a series of Christmas concerts with the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Kristian Bezuidenhout.
The choir is under the direction of László Nemes and Irene Verburg.
