The young but full sound of the National Mixed Youth Choir (ages 15 to 29) is unlike any other choir. The choir was formed when boys from the National Boys' Choir moved on after voice changes and joined with singers from the National Children's Choir to form a new chamber choir. With fresh energy, they have been performing the finest choral works from Bach to the Beatles ever since. Whatever they sing, they go for it. They adapt nimbly to the sound world of the music and the respective project conductor. Thus Sigvards Klava awakened in the young voices a new depth appropriate to the world of Rachmaninov and the choir brought emotion with their transparent and staged performance of the John Passion.
The National Mixed Youth Choir regularly works with guest conductors such as Ed Spanjaard and Sigvards Klava. Last summer the choir made an invited concert tour to Hungary, and in December they sang a series of Christmas concerts with the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Philharmonie in Haarlem, among others.
Next year it will be Requiem of Mozart performed with PRJCT Amsterdam conducted by Maarten Engeltjes and in December 2025 a series of Christmas concerts featuring South American baroque music and the Messe de Minuit by Charpentier with Musica Temprana conducted by Adrián Rodríguez Van der Spoel.
The choir is under the direction of László Nemes and Irene Verburg.
