Fire in My Mouth – Voices That Matter

In November 2026, Nationale Koren will collaborate with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and NTR ZaterdagMatinee on a special project: Fire in My Mouth by the American composer Julia Wolfe.

Fire in My Mouth tells the story of young women who worked in the New York garment industry at the beginning of the 20th century, fought for better working conditions, and fell victim to the devastating fire at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory in 1911. A story of courage, solidarity, and struggle that remains relevant to this day.

Discover the story behind the music

On the special project website www.fireinmymouth.nl You'll learn more about the history behind the work, the music, and the people involved in the project. You can also share your own stories and thoughts there.
