The National Children's Choir has been around for 35 years! Over the years they sang along in the most beautiful works with professional orchestras, choirs and well-known conductors. They are known for their pure sound with a silver lining, discipline and enthusiasm to sing anytime, anywhere. Friendships are made for life. Well-known artists such as Lucie Horsch, Nora Fischer and Dzifa Kusenuh once started their careers in the National Children's Choir. Are you musical and driven? Then the National Children's Choir is a perfect place to share with peers the most beautiful musical experiences and be able to grow.
Founded in 1989, the National Children's Choir (ages 10 to 15) focuses on classical music from the Middle Ages to the present. The choir performed at the christening of Princess Amalia and at the National 4 May Commemoration in the Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam and has participated in many concerts requiring a children's choir, such as Arche by Jörg Widmann and Alice in Wonderland by Unsuk Chin with the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra during the Saturday Matinee, the opera Aus Licht by K.H. Stockhausen during the Holland Festival and Die Legende von der Heiligen Elisabeth by Franz Liszt with the Hungarian Philharmonic Orchestra. In the coming year, the National Children's Choir will participate in the 8e Symphony by G. Mahler with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra conducted by Klaus Mäkelä.
The National Children's Choir is for boys and girls with musical and vocal talent who:
All children audition first. At the audition will be determined whether you have sufficient aptitude and motivation to participate.
If you are still too young, you can pre-sing for one of the training choirs starting at age 6. Are you a boy and would prefer to sing with other boys in a boys' choir? Then audition for the National Boys' Choir!
As a continuation of the National Children's Choir, you can advance through auditions to the National Mixed Youth Choir or the National Women's Youth Choir. Many former members of the National Children's Choir have become so enthusiastic about music that they have made music their profession such as Fee de Ruiter (soprano), Lucie Horsch (recorder) and Yang Yang Cai (piano).
An audition is a bit like an individual music class. You get to sing three songs from memory that you have prepared at home:
We test your musical hearing through various musical assignments and games. Based on the songs you've recited, we'll give you a short singing lesson.
You will also take a written music test to give the audition committee an idea of what you already know about music theory. The result of the written test is not decisive for admission.
You can sign up for the auditions at this form. Auditions take place throughout the year.
For an audition you will pay an audition fee of €22. This fee can be paid at the same time as registration.
