The National Children's Choir and the National Boys' Choir sang along to Mahler's Third Symphony last Sunday. A young singer from the National Boys' Choir sang along for the first time. When he woke up the next day, he told his mother, "I always feel this kind of smile in my stomach when I think of the concert!"
This enthusiasm is also reflected in the reviews:
"In the fourth movement, with the alto solo 'O Mensch! Gib acht!', the warmly singing Olesya Petrova (behind whom the unstable deployments of the high horns and trombones are now really disturbing) single-handedly can do nothing against Luisi's fragmentary sway. But against the entire chorus of women and children in the fifth movement, Luisi comically again can do little: they sing finely just through the frames."
"The Great Broadcast Women's Choir, the Children's Choir and the National Youth Choir are arranged above the orchestra. 'Bim, bam!" sound the children's voices in the fifth angel part. 'Es sungen drei Engel einen süßen Gesang,' the women follow. With voices brighter than the lights on the ceiling, it is as if the gates to heaven are opening. The apocalyptic orchestra tries to drag them along, into the underworld - in vain. Truly sublime."

This weekend they join the Achtse Symfonie. The concerts are long sold out but are broadcast live on Radio 4 and can be seen on NPO plus or live in a tent in the Vondelpark.
