Annemiek van der Ven grew up surrounded by the music of Utrecht Cathedral. At the age of eight, she enrolled in the Cathedral Choir School in Utrecht. She sang in the choir there until she was seventeen. In 2005, she completed her degree in Music Education at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, with classical voice as her first musical minor. In April 2010, she graduated ‘cum laude’ from the choral conducting program at the Conservatory of Amsterdam.
From 2004 to 2017, she sang first alto in the female a cappella ensemble ‘Wishful Singing.’ This ensemble originated from the National Youth Choir, where she sang from 2001 to 2008.
As a music teacher, she was affiliated with the National Choirs for many years (2005–2017), where she taught groups of children ages 4 to 17. In addition, she served (even back then!) as conductor for the Talent Class and the NKK Junior.
As an instructor in ensemble conducting, she worked at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam from 2019 to 2021, in the Music Education Department. In addition, from 2019 to 2021, she also taught this subject at the Dirigentenwerkplaats in Utrecht. As a conductor during her studies, she led many choirs with a wide variety of musical styles and genres in their repertoires. For example, from 2012 to 2021, she served as conductor of the Student Choir of VU University Amsterdam (the VUkoor), and from 2018 to 2023, she was the conductor of the vocal ensemble ‘The Gents.’.
In 2023, she earned her PABO degree. In addition to her work as a musician, she now also teaches two days a week at the Zeister Vrije School.
