Koen van der Meer studied philosophy, school music, piano and music theory in Saarbrücken. During this time he discovered his passion for early music and began taking master classes in harpsichord and conducting with Jesper Christensen, Jörg Andreas Bötticher, Peter van Heyghen, Georg Grün, Dan-Olof Stenlund and Ayline Zylberajch. He then studied for a year at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven, Belgium, harpsichord with Kris Verhelst and choral conducting with Erik van Nevel. In 2012, he completed his studies in choral conducting with Jos van Veldhoven at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. He played harpsichord for the opera company "PazzaCaglia" for several years, with which he performed at international festivals.
Koen works regularly with choirs and vocal ensembles, including the Ensemble Noëma, the Erasmus Chamber Choir Rotterdam and Mnemosyne Nijmegen. He also plays various keyboard instruments in early music ensembles. He teaches music theory at the ArtEZ Conservatory in Zwolle and the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. Koen has been teaching for the Nationale Koren in the Hague teaching location since January 2018.
